Biography

Karen Contegiacomo Ozyjowski established Jorgensen & Ozyjowski, P.A., a family, criminal and civil litigation law firm, with partner Jacqueline L. Jorgensen, in 2006. Prior to starting the firm, Ms. Ozyjowski served as an Assistant Public Defender for the Thirteenth Judicial Circuit for the State of Florida,  representing indigent people charged with crimes ranging from misdemeanors to punishable by life first degree felonies.  After leaving the Public Defenders office in 2001, Ms. Ozyjwoski went on to work as an associate attorney at the civil litigation firm of Meirose & Friscia, P.A., where she represented both individual and corporate clients in areas of practice including civil litigation, insurance defense, construction law, community association law and bankruptcy.   Her extensive experience in the courtroom has made the transition into family law natural.

Karen C. Ozyjowski is originally from Brooklyn, New York, but was raised in Pasco County Florida.  Ms. Ozyjowski graduated from the University of Central Florida, with a B.A. in legal studies and a minor in interpersonal communications.  She then earned her Juris Doctor from Hofstra University School of Law, located in Hempstead, NY in May 1999, graduating at the top 15% of her class, and receiving honors that included the Dean’s List; the Judge Edward Hart Memorial Scholarship for Excellence in Trial Advocacy and was the 1999 National Student Trial Advocacy Competition Regional Champion.  Ms. Ozyjowski was then admitted to the Florida Bar in September 1999.
 
Since being admitted to the Florida Bar, Ms. Ozyjowski has gained extensive litigation experience handling all aspects of family, civil and criminal legal matters, including appeals.  She currently devotes a large portion of her practice to marital and family law concentrating in the areas of divorce, child custody, timesharing, spousal and child support, equitable distribution, domestic violence injunctions and enforcement.  In addition, to her family law work, Ms. Ozyjowski also continues to handle criminal and civil matters including but not limited to, foreclosures, contract disputes, construction defects, construction liens, juvenile charges, DUI’s and all other criminal offenses.
