A Record Of Dedicated Service
I established the Law Office of Karen C. Ozyjowski, P.A., a family, criminal and civil litigation law firm, in 2006. Prior to starting the firm, I served as an assistant public defender for the 13th Judicial Circuit Court of Florida, representing indigent people charged with crimes ranging from misdemeanors to punishable-by-life first-degree felonies.
After leaving the public defender’s office in 2001, I went on to work as an associate attorney at the civil litigation firm of Meirose & Friscia, P.A., where I represented both individual and corporate clients in areas of practice including civil litigation, insurance defense, construction law, community association law and bankruptcy. My extensive experience in the courtroom works to my clients’ advantage when litigation is required to resolve your family law or criminal law case.
I am originally from Brooklyn, New York, but I was raised in Pasco County, Florida. I graduated from the University of Central Florida, with a B.A. in legal studies and a minor in interpersonal communications. I then earned my J.D. from Hofstra University School of Law, located in Hempstead, New York, in May 1999. I graduated in the top 15% of my class and received honors that included the dean’s list and the Judge Edward J. Hart Memorial Scholarship for Trial Advocacy. I was also the regional champion of the National Student Trial Advocacy Competition Regional Champion in 1999. I was then admitted to The Florida Bar in September 1999.
Since being admitted to The Florida Bar, I have gained extensive litigation experience handling all aspects of family, civil and criminal legal matters, including appeals. I currently devote a large portion of my practice to marital and family law, concentrating in the areas of divorce, child custody, timesharing, spousal and child support, equitable distribution, domestic violence injunctions and enforcement.
In addition to my family law work, I continue to handle criminal and civil matters, including foreclosures, contract disputes, construction defects, construction liens, juvenile charges, DUIs and all other criminal offenses.
